The ‘Old Villages’ Trail

The 10 km-long ‘Old Villages’ Trail offers a glimpse into the history of Naujieji Verkiai, Verkių Riešė, Staviškės, Turniškės, and Krempliai, which were once villages on the right bank of the Neris. The latter settlement is the starting point, but you can start the route from any other village. Information stands are located along the trail.

The impressive differences in the terrain make it feel like you are walking along a mountain path. This impression is particularly strong on the section of the trail from Verkių Riešė to Staviškės. The valley of the Riešė stream is surrounded by steep, spruce-covered slopes and has a clear babbling brook flowing through it. Residential houses stand next to the stream, one of which is reached by a miniature bridge over the stream.

A map of the ‘Old Villages’ Trail can be found on the website of the Pavilnys and Verkiai Regional Parks Directorate.
