ONIGIRI

It may sound strange, but Japanese everyday food is not sushi at all, but onigiri – a rice ball or triangle that is stuffed with fish, vegetables or, for example, fermented umeboshi plums.

It is usually eaten cold, wrapped in a seaweed leaf – nori. In Japan, you can buy onigiri at every corner shop, gas station, station, even restaurant, although it is read as a simple everyday or street food. Onigiri has been popular in Japan for hundreds of years, but is increasingly being found in supermarkets and even grocery stores in European cities. Onigiri Vilnius is the first specialized onigiri restaurant in Lithuania, which, by the way, was born from a Lithuanian family’s great love for Japan and … food.

The hosts recommend tasting it

The main dish is onigiri, they can be tasted in several ways – the famous “bestsellers” such as “tuna-mayo”, “chicken-teriyaki” or “salmon-miso” do not change, they are always available. The rest, depending on the season, can be with green tuna, edamame beans, shiitake mushrooms and the like. The menu includes a salmon donburi bowl, and sometimes, on special occasions, we also make a bento, a Japanese lunch box.
