Kazys Varnelis House-Museum

At first glance, the house-museum of painter, master of optical art and collector Kazios Varnelis (1917-2010) resembles a small residential house.

However, there are more than forty exhibition halls that combine old graphics, maps, Western European sculpture and painting, historical furniture, as well as Far Eastern art and K. Varnelis’ own optical art compositions.
Today, the visitor can independently explore the fourteen halls of the museum. Others can be visited with a guide by prior arrangement. The extended excursion provides an opportunity not only to get to know K. Varnelis’ painting and collection better, but also to see the library containing almost 10 thousand books and the artist’s studio, which does not leave anyone indifferent.

The house-museum of Kazys Varnelis is the first collector’s museum in Lithuania, as well as the only branch of the Lithuanian National Museum dedicated to art.
