Dragon’s meadow

The  Dragon’s meadow (“Drakono pieva”) located at the gate to the Vilnius Open Air Museum is a new public space in Šnipiškės, as if connecting part of the wooden homesteads with modern buildings on the right bank of the Neris. Next to it along Giedraičių Street, a colorful stand provides information about the history of the district, the legacy of the 19th century and the connection with the open-air Swedish ethnographic museum Skansen.

In 2022, the territory of “Dragon’s Meadow” was renovated and consists of several zones: in the southern part – an entrance and a small meadow, in the northern part, away from the street, there is a children’s playground, basketball and exercise ground, in the eastern part – rest areas with benches under old linden trees, chess tables, gazebo, and also an old authentic water pump left here. The square is planted with plants characteristic of homesteads: rowan, ash, and bushes, as well as willow, oak, two black pines, and herbaceous plants.

An unusual sculpture built by local residents has been preserved and has become a symbol of the meadow – an egg laid on a pruned tree trunk.
