Bagel shop (Beigelių krautuvėlė)
The Bagel Shop opened its doors back in 2016, it immediately gained great popularity not only among Vilnius residents, but also among guests from all over the world. This is a small cafe where several types of products are baked on site: bagels, challah – Friday bread, bialys, classic Litvak sweets – teiglach, imberlach. Litvak culinary heritage and modern Israeli cuisine are still mixed here. The Bagel Shop successfully fulfills the function of a social, cultural and educational center, it is a meeting place for representatives of the Jewish Litvak diaspora, cultivators of culinary heritage and anyone who remembers with great nostalgia the food prepared by Jewish neighbors or friends. Open events on the occasion of Jewish holidays, educational culinary workshops are organized here, and tours of Jewish Vilnius begin or end on weekends. The cafe was opened with the support of the EEA and Norwegian financial mechanisms in 2014. The Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) community implementing the tolerance campaign.
Owners would like to recommend:
Teiglach – a Litvak sweet, cooked for hours in honey, imberlach – candied carrots and ginger, famous for its diamond shape and sharpness, shakshuka – it’s better than in Tel Aviv, bagel lox – a cult bagel with salmon, which rivaled Egg Benedict in New York in the 19th century.
